Why I Left My Office Job to Help Aussie Businesses Grow with Equipment Finance

It was a tough decision to leave the safety of an office job where I had been for multiple years and firmly in my comfort zone. But I strongly felt the urge to get back to my “happy place” helping people via finance.

Having worked in industries including motorbikes, marine, power equipment, tractors, and agriculture, becoming an equipment finance broker felt like the logical next step. It was a big call to start from scratch as a broker, but I’m confident that my personality, finance knowledge, and industry experience will prove this was the right decision.

The First Month: Challenges and Wins
I’m now over a month in and have absolutely no regrets.It’s great to have that spark back, the kind you get when you’re genuinely excited about your work. Every day is different and I’m really enjoying meeting new people and figuring out how I can help them. Whether it’s selling equipment that’s sitting in their yard or purchasing new gear to take their business to the next level.

The Big Questions
Starting with a blank piece of paper is as exciting as it is daunting. Some of the questions I’ve been asking myself include:

  • Will old contacts remember me? Will they want to talk to me again?
  • Will previous colleagues want to refer their customers to me?
  • How will I go with cold-calling?
  • Should I do it over the phone, email, or in person?
  • What industries should I target?

So many questions and really, no correct answers. There’s no manual to refer to, but that’s part of what makes this new journey so exciting.
